This tour is focused on world-famous architect Tadao Ando’s various projects in Tokyo. You can enjoy both Ando’s early works and latest big project in a day.
We start by looking the unique triangle shaped museum “21_21 DESIGN SIGHT” in Tokyo Midtown near Roppongi. After visiting the unique shaped exhibition hall, we will move to Sengawa station taking limited express train on the Keio Line from Shinjyuku Station in about 30 minutes. In Sengawa area, we visit “Tokyo Art Museum / TAM”. It is a small art museum, but I think you can enjoy the unique atmosphere designed by Ando Tadao not only on the outside but also on the inside. Also you can see so-called “Ando Street” near TAM. Along this street, Ando has designed six buildings with the hot demands of the landowners, and walking along this Ando architecture lined street will give you impressive experience.
At the end, we return to Omotesando area to see “Collezione” which is early Ando’s work in Tokyo and the recent his masterpiece “Omotesando Hills”. You may compare his design attitude towards the differences between small and large commercial facilities and also about his design progress of these 20 years.
At your request, we can arrange other Ando’s work in Tokyo as much as possible, like the Fukutake Hall of the University of Tokyo (Hongo Campus) and the International Library of Children’s Literature (National Diet Library) in Ueno and also the Tokyu Shibuya Station in Shibuya.
